On Wednesday 13th March, the P5 Class visited Ballymoney Museum to see the “Arpillera Journey” exhibition. The exhibition features textiles that were created by local women as part of the “Stitching and Unstitching the Troubles” Peace III Cultural Fusions programme. These women created textiles describing what their life was like as they were growing up.

The P5 were shown examples of different Arpilleras and were told about the background of where they came fro. The class then went on to learn “Hello, Welcome and Peace” in German, Swedish, Spanish, and Welsh. They then made friendship bracelets to show peace and to celebrate friendships with others.

After the exhibition was over the class were able to explore the “Causeway Safari Tale” exhibition which told them about the Safari Park in Ballymoney.

The P5s thoroughly enjoyed this experience, particularly the opportunity to learn and understand what other people’s lives were like growing up and how their stories were told by making Arpilleras.
