Prize day...another Successful Year for St. Brigid's
24th June 2016
St. Brigid’s Primary School held their Annual Prize Day on Friday 24th June. The school’s Acting Principal, Mrs Louise McNally, highlighted that Prize Day was not solely about celebrating sporting success but also to recognise and celebrate the children’s academic, spiritual, artistic and cultural achievements, which are all strong features of the ethos of the school.
This year St. Brigid’s gave their Prize Day an extra twist by beginning with a triumphal entrance by pupils in Y1, Y2 and Class A [KS1 Learning Support Centre], who all received medals, for their enthusiastic participation in team games, as well as in the individual sprint event.
To a fanfare of music and applause from family, staff and pupils, the winners of Sport Day races in Y3 - Y7 were presented with medals. Prizes were awarded to soccer, hurling/camogie and netball teams, who won their inter-school competitions. Individual excellence was also recognised with Sports Day Champion shields presented for both Key Stages.
These impressive sporting achievements were recognised by Liam Beckett, former Irish League professional footballer. During her presentation, Mrs McNally praised the strong academic performance throughout the year and reflected on the school’s end of Key Stage Assessments, which were ahead of CEA averages in literacy, numeracy and ICT.
Mrs McNally welcomed back Mr Conlon, former Principal of St. Brigid’s, on this special occasion to present a Reading trophy
On behalf of the whole school community, Mrs McNally thanked the PTA and the Board of Governors for their commitment and time, which they give on a voluntary basis.
In her closing address, Mrs McNally reflected, that the school year of 2015 – 2016, could not go pass without acknowledging and thanking Mr Malachy Conlon for his work and his vision for St. Brigid’s Primary School from 2007 to 2016.
