Mixed Hockey Champions 2021
15th December 2021
Chilly weather and formidable opponents were not going to stop St. Brigid’s mixed hockey team from defending our title from two years ago. It took superb teamwork, immense resilience and pure talent to see the fantastic boys and girls from our school to the first silverware of the season.
Topping our group with five wins, whilst conceding only one goal, left us in a great position heading into the semi-final against Irish Society. A hard fought, but ultimately successful game, earned us a much coveted place in the final of this brilliant mixed hockey tournament, run by the excellently organised sixth formers of Coleraine Grammar, co-ordinated by past pupil Sarah Kirgan.
The final was intense and exciting as we faced opponents we had already met in our group stage, and who we had only narrowly beaten by the smallest of margins. This would be a tough match and in true St. Brigid’s fashion we rose to the challenge and grasped the opportunity of victory with both hands, goals coming from our hat-trick hero, Kiera.
We are so proud of this amazing team. A special mention to our captain, Ethan, who was presented with the tournament’s top goal scorer trophy. Well done boys and girls….. Caden, Conor, Ciaran, Ethan, Oran, Kiera, Katie, Molly, Cassie and Maggie. Go celebrate!!!
