St Brigid’s Girls Make History!
5th June 2025

Our girls made history on Monday, becoming the first team to represent St Brigid’s in Ladies’ Gaelic Football. Not only that, but they took part in the first ever schools competition in the sport for our area, North Antrim.
With two schools putting teams forward, the match between the girls of St Joseph’s, Dunloy, and St Brigid’s, Ballymoney, was played on Monday, with the winner progressing to represent North Antrim in the Cumann na mBunscol All County Finals.
And what an epic encounter this was!
The girls from both squads served up an incredibly exciting match, scoring points from distance and defending their goals fearlessly. They had 4 points each at the end of ordinary time and, with the teams adding another point each in extra-time, it came down to a case of sudden death and ‘next score wins’ to separate the teams. St Brigid’s lost the toss and had to play against the wind for this final period. Tired legs and the stiff breeze suggested we might not come out the right side of this one, but our girls dug deep and eventually got the score they deserved – a well-taken goal to send them into the All County Finals!
Huge thanks to Mr Devlin for organising and refereeing the game and to the girls from St Joseph’s for a fantastic game of football. It’s great to have girls’ Gaelic Football in North Antrim and we hope it will continue to grow in future.
Finally, congratulations to our history-makers; Lucia H, Lucia K, Cara, Cassie Mae, Grace R, Grace Mc, Nellie and Gracie.
Good luck in the County Final girls!
