Reading for Refugees - Assembly
10th March 2017
Visit from author Garry McKinney
We had a visit from author Garry McKinney, from the Reading for Refugees project. Garry is raising money to provide a library of books for Syrian refugees in Jordan.
We held an assembly in which the children asked Garry questions about his work as an author, as well as his planned trip to the Za’atari camp in Jordan. We then showed Garry some of the work we have been doing at school.
The Reading for Refugees project has given us a meaningful context in which we can learn about the plight of Syrian refugee children. It has also taught us that, through our actions, we can make a real difference. We were delighted to present Garry with a cheque for £375 – the fantastic sum total of our fundraising efforts!
Well done to all of the children for their great work. We look forward to hearing from Garry when he returns from his trip.
