NI Hockey Finals Here We Come!

For the second year in a row St. Brigid’s hockey team has qualified for the NI Hockey finals, to be held at Playball, Stormont on Thurs 10 April. This year it was the turn of our boys’ team, receiving the honours when they proudly won the Causeway Coast & Glens regional qualifier event.
The boys showed determination, skill and teamwork throughout the whole morning, topping our group with only one defeat in the group stages to a strong Gorran side. This set up a tight and tense semi final clash with a well-prepared DH Christie squad. We scored the only goal in the match to secure a nail-biting, end to end final game with Damhead. This was a wonderful head-to-head, packed full of dribbles, shots on goal and impressive tackles. Damhead scored first, but this only added to our boys’ drive for a win. They rallied and responded with two great goals of their own to claim victory and a much coveted place in the NI Boys’ Hockey Finals in Stormont. A fantastic achievement and truly well deserved.
Thank you to Jack Kyle and his team from Ulster Hockey for organising the hugely successful event, to James for his help on the day, to our coaches Mrs Campbell and Diane Kirgan and to our parents who supported all the children. A special thank you and congratulations to our girls’ hockey team who have been training hard with the boys all year and who narrowly missed out (on a countback head-to-head) on a semi final spot themselves in their qualifier the previous day. They too were outstanding, displaying excellent skill and teamwork. Both our teams have made us very proud indeed.
