Big Bedtime Read 2017
5th December 2017
No -You are not mistaken!
Foundation stage children were in school at night, they were wearing their slippers and pyjamas, they were sipping hot chocolate and yes – Mrs Claus was reading them a bedtime story!
On Wednesday 29th November, parents and children from the Foundation stage came into school for The Big Bedtime Read facilitated by Mrs Mc Kay (P1), Mrs Mc Shannock (P2) and Mrs Kelly (Literacy coordinator.)
While the children enjoyed Christmas stories around the fire (presented by Mrs O’ Mullan), parents took part in a reading workshop where they were shown different skills as to how to read with their child and given guidance on approaches used in school to help children become independent readers.
Information was shared about how reading and writing is taught in school and how parents can support this learning at home.
Despite the cold night, we had a fantastic turnout of parents and the children thoroughly enjoyed their bedtime stories in the winter scene created for them by Caroline and Angela, our FS learning support assistants.
