Big Bedtime Read
17th November 2015
The boys and girls in Primary 1 & 2 love the school so much, that on Tuesday 17 November they came to school at night for the Big Bedtime Read.
Pupils from Miss McAllister’s and Mrs Hickey’s P1 classes, along with Mrs Kelly’s P2 class came to school in their pyjamas and onesies for a Big Bedtime Read with their classroom assistants. At the same time their parents attended a reading workshop with the teachers, which focused on how parents can help their children to learn to read. There was tremendous excitement in the school and the novelty of coming to school in pyjamas definitely appealed to the boys and girls. Parents too were very enthusiastic about the initiative and learnt a great deal about how the school teaches the children to read and how they can support that learning at home. The parents also learnt about how reading has been prioritised in the School Development Plan through the investment in reading initiatives in the school which have included new reading schemes, new infant library books and the Accelerated Reader programme in Key Stage 2.
